Revs sign Bayern Munich forward

Posted by JJ Comeau.

The New England Revolution of the MLS and Bayern Munich, plays in the Bundesliga of Germany, recently completed a deal that enabled the Revs to acquire French forward.

It didn't take long for head coach Jay Heaps to realize that Saër Sène would be a perfect fit for the struggling Revs. The offensive-less team finished at the bottom of the table in 2011 while posting a concerning 5-16-13 record. Sène, who was on trial with the Revs in Casa Grande, Arizona, possess the skills and attributes necessary to serve as a true front man, something the team was missing all last season.

Sène has been playing for Bayern's reserve team since 2009. Although he hasn't made a first team appearance during his tenure, he was able to manage an impressive 19 goals in 55 appearances, while netting 11 of them in his 2009-10 campaign. Injuries had put a damper on his 2010-11 season but the 25 year old came out firing this season with 8 goals in the first 16 games.

Coach Heaps as a lot to look forward to as training has been positive and free-transfer Sène has impressed. The Revs also signed Colombian forward Jose Moreno for 2012. Let's hope Heaps doesn't fall into same situation as previous and highly criticized coach, Steve Nicol, did when he couldn't put together a sound team. Depth has not been a strength of the Revolution in the past as Nicol's ignored the talent on the bench. Youngsters Ryan Kinne and Diego Fagundez saw extreme limited time last season with Fagundez gaining a couple starts towards the end of the season. Kinne was a back-to-back Hermann Trophy semifinalists during his junior and senior years at Monmouth University. The kid can clearly play and why Nicol's wasn't using him at least off the bench is mind-blowing.

With the right coaching and healthy players, we can expect to see major improvements from our beloved Revs.
